Spotlight - Yarada Beach

Yarada Beach

One of the best retreats from the city buzz is a quiet stroll in the sand at the beach or a not so quiet splash in the water with friends. If you think the beaches in the city are too crowded for you or too polluted, here's a place that you will love spending time at. Although, the beaches at Rushikonda and beyond offer some kind of a refuge from the city crowds, nothing beats Yarada Beach when it come to clean unpolluted water in a picturesque landscape.

In our recent trip to the Yarada Beach, we took some pics and noted down the ups and downs of this sandy tourist attraction.
Located in the middle of nowhere and only accessible though a curvy ghat road, Yarada Beach is located in between to hills about 20Km south from the center of the city. Depending on where you live in Vizag, it should take anywhere from 1/2 hour to 1 hr to reach this sandy resort.

Going around the port and then the Naval Park area, the road that leads to the actual route to Yarada can be easily missed, so be sure to ask someone road side frequently.

Once you take the turn into the small village area and go beyond it, you will be on a rough ghati with roads so narrow, it is amazing how the RTC buses use it day in and day out but more on that later. After about half hour on this curvy road, we reach to top of a hill which is now occupied by the Naval officers quarters with nice looking apartment building and playgrounds with basket ball courts and skating rinks etc. Once you cross this area and hit the narrow ghati again, it shouldn't take long to reach a T intersection splitting the road towards the small village of Yarada and the road to the beach. Take the road to the beach and within minutes you are in the golden color sandy beaches and bluish green waters turned white by the tides.

You can see hills on both side of the beach and there a rock pile almost at the middle of the valley making it a sight to see the water splashing against the rocks. The best part of Yarada is the spaciousness of the valley, even if you go on the a Saturday or a Sunday, it is still pretty empty giving you the entire beach to enjoy for yourself. Once you go into the warm water fighting temptation not to go any deeper, within minutes you will be drenched in the waves as height as 5 to 6 ft on a good day. We advice to go into the waters only in groups and holding hands because the waves at Yarada are known for their brute strength. Be sure to take a change of clothes and towels with you (even if you are not planning to go into the water) because we guarantee you, you will be wet when you turn back to your city life.
