The Visakahapatnam airport is soon to offiicially get the status of an international airport according to the authorities. The permission from the Union Goverment to declare the airport International is expected soon.
Airlines such as Emitrites and Air Arabia are eager to start their operations from Vizag. It is estimated that over 5 lakh people are going to other metros such as Hyderabad and Chennai to travel internationally to the South West Asia and other destinations.
One of the drawbacks of the Visakhapatnam airport is that despite having all the necessary technology and equipement for night operations, the Indian Navy has restricted operations at the airport from 8 AM to 8 PM for national security reasons. It is encouraging though, that customs and immigration check posts are ready and good to go once the international traffic starts.

Many are waiting for it...
We are waiting for this news since two years and finally Indian Navy restricted the operations. We are going to complete 21st century and about to enter in 22nd century and still waiting for a international airport and blaming Indian Navy for playing villain role. Pse understand the value of Intenational airport.
Wonder how many years more it would be before we can see international operations from Vizag.
Wonder what good it is to have all these associations for air travellers etc if they cannot make such things happen
