How to pick a melon

Picking a watermelon is pretty easy, here are some tips to help you shop for them.
  • Watermelon should be firm and symmetrical, without bruises, cuts or dents.
  • It should feel heavy for its size and have a creamy yellow spot on the one side of the melon where it sat on the ground to ripen in the sun.
  • Precut melon flesh should be dense, firm and appear moist.
If you buy a watermelon at room temperature, you can store it the same way. The best way to eat it however is chilled. If you haven't tried this already, cut it up into small pieces and sprinkle some sugar on top of it before you put it in the fridge. When you get home from a hot tiresome day, enjoy this treat and you will feel instantly energetic along with reaping all the health benefits.
So remember, if the summer gets too hot and humid, beat it with a melon!
