We have all seen the bids by schools in the area, especially Vignan, to get into the Guinness book of records, by performing a 24 Hr continuous dance performance. That wasn't enough, so they went for a 48 hr folk dance performance. So what is next, a whole week of dances?? What people fail to see is the amount of stress this puts on the kids. And, how many guests were there for the whole 48 Hrs?
Don't get me wrong, I am all for performances in the city and that too by children highlighting folk dances but at cost?
Here's an except from The Hindu about the event.
Of course, they seemed thoroughly stressed out and tired after performing continuously on stage at the end of the record-breaking event to bid for an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records. In all, 320 students of Vignan Vidyalayam High School, Timmapuram, began their dance to glory one Saturday recently. The girls and boys in traditional attire presented 18 different folk arts forms like “Chakka Bhajana”, “Garaga”, “Dhimsa”, “Jhamakula katha”, “Burra katha”, “Karrala dance” “Tappetagullu”, “Jangamdevara”, “Veera Natyam”, “Savara”, “Pittala Dora”, “Karagam” and “Lambadi” dances by turns during the two days.Of course, the children were stressed out?? As interesting as it is to be part of a Guinness record, I think the children should not be stressed out this way which might make dance seem like a stressful duty than a way to freedom and enjoyment.
